The Clarke County Animal Shelter is owned and operated by the county. It is supported by the Clarke County Humane Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation and an American Humane Member.
The shelter, located at 225 Ramsburg Lane, Berryville, is open 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM Friday through Monday; and 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Tuesday through Thursday. It is closed on holidays.
The adoption fee for cats and dogs is $25. The shelter only accepts checks and money orders.
The Clarke County Humane Foundation covers the cost of spaying and neutering animals adopted by Clarke County residents. It provides a subsidy program for residents of Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, and Warren counties.
Mature animals must be altered before leaving the shelter. Animals that are too young to be altered at time of adoption must be taken by the new owner to a participating veterinarian within 30 days of the animal reaching 6-months old. Animals that are old enough to be altered, but are not eligible for subsidy, must be altered within 30 days of adoption date.
