The Clarke County Recreation Center building features a multi-purpose room, fitness room, gymnasium, arts and crafts room with kitchen facilities, and offices for park employees. The Recreation Center is open to the public during hours listed below. The building may close on some federal holidays.

Pets are not permitted in the Recreation Center, except certified assistance animals.

Children 8 and under must be supervised by someone at least 14-years old.

Summer Hours (June - September)

  • Monday - Friday: 9:00am - 6:00pm
  • Saturday: 12:00pm - 6:00pm
  • Sunday: Closed

Winter Hours (October - May)

  • Monday - Friday: 9:00am - 6:00pm
  • Saturday: 10:00am - 9:00pm
  • Sunday: 12:00pm - 7:00pm

Daily rates, discount passes, and yearly passes depend on age and residency. Discounts apply to Clarke County residents, children 3- to 5-years old, children 6- to 15-years old, and those 55 and older. Find all Recreation Center fees in the current issue of The Core.

Gymnasium is perfect for basketball, volleyball, walking, jogging, indoor soccer, and creative movement for toddlers. The 75-by-94-foot gymnasium seats 225 people, and can be divided in half: the 75-by-46-foot side has bleacher seating for 100 people; the 75-by-48-foot side has bleacher seating for 125 people. The gymnasium is available special events by reservation. Only non-marking athletic shoes may be worn in the gymnasium.

Fitness Room includes a variety of cardiovascular and fitness equipment such as stationary exercise bicycles, elliptical machines and cross-trainers, treadmills, multi-station fitness systems, and dumbbells. A television and stereo are also available. The center offers weekly fitness classes and personal training. Children 15 and under must be supervised by a parent or legal guardian in the fitness room.

Arts & Crafts Room with kitchen is an ideal place for small gatherings of up to 40 people. The kitchen has a refrigerator-freezer, microwave, oven, and stove. Tables and chairs are provided.

Multi-Purpose Room seats 55 and is perfect for informal business or club meetings, birthday parties, and bridal showers. The room has a dry-erase board. Tables, chairs, PA system, television, VCR, DVD player, and projectors are available to use free of charge.

Active Living Center seats more than 100 people and is an ideal location for informal business or club meetings, birthday parties, bridal showers, and receptions. Tables, chairs, PA system, television, VCR, DVD player, and projectors are available to use free of charge. Access to the attached kitchen requires an additional rental fee. Note: The room is used by the Clarke County Senior Center from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM Tuesday through Friday. Contact the Senior Center at (540) 955-3572 or clarkesc@shenandoahaaa.com.

Reservations can be made up to three months in advance. When scheduling a reservation, allow enough time for decorating and removing decorations. Reservations canceled 30 days in advance receive a full refund. Reservations canceled less than 30 days before the reserved date receive a 50 percent refund. Reservations can be rescheduled if the Recreation Center must close because of extreme weather.

Rental Fees

Full Gymnasium: $60 per hour; $50 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations.

Half Gymnasium: $30 per hour; $25 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations.

Arts & Crafts Room: $30 per hour; $20 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations.

Multi-Purpose Room: $30 per hour; $20 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations.

Active Living Center: $50 per hour; $50 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations.

Kitchen: $25 per hour; $25 per hour for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations.

Entire Facility (Except Active Living Center): $70 per hour up to 8 hours ($40 each additional hour); $60 per hour up to 8 hours ($30 each additional hour) for Clarke residents; 50 percent discount for Clarke County non-profit organizations.

Supervisor Fee: $15 per hour; no discounts.

Active Living Center kitchen rental, Active Living Center off-hours rental, or entire Recreation Center rental requires a supervisor. Additional fees include gym floor covering $145 (if required); $15 per hour for additional staff; and $16 for Wee Gym set up.

Rental fees above apply to personal use. Any private individual or organization that charges fees while using park facilities must pay 15 percent of gross profits to Clarke County Parks & Recreation.


Possession/consumption of alcoholic beverages on park property is prohibited.
