The Clarke County Office of Elections administers voter registration and absentee ballot process, organizes and administers elections, maintains records of registration and elections, and recruits and trains election officials.
The Constitution of Virginia requires that you be registered in the precinct in which you live in order to be qualified to vote. Registration is closed during the 21 days before a primary or general election. Please see the Election Calendar for registration deadlines.
A valid Photo Identification is required in order to cast a ballot at the polling place on election day and for in-person absentee voting (24.2-643). Acceptable forms of identification include (Photo ID Flyer):
- Valid Virginia Driver's License
- DMV - issued photo identification card
- Valid United States Passport
- Valid employee photo identification card
- Other government-issued photo identification card
- Valid college or university student photo identification card (issuer must be an institution of higher education located in Virginia)
If you do not have an acceptable form of identification, please contact your local voter registration office for a free Photo ID.
Voters without acceptable ID will be required to vote a provisional ballot and submit a copy of a valid form of ID to the local Electoral Board by noon on Friday following Election Day in order for the ballot to be counted.
