Fire, EMS & Emergency Management coordinates all services of the county’s three volunteer fire and rescue companies as well as all emergency preparedness planning and response for the county. It manages paid EMS staff and manages fee-for-service programs. Fire, EMS & Emergency Management oversees professional responses to fire, medical, and environmental emergencies. The department is dedicated to minimizing the loss of life and property through suppression, rescue, education, and other programs.
The Communications Center is responsible for around-the-clock emergency (911) and non-emergency (540-955-1234) operations. It is also responsible for street addressing system throughout Clarke County.
Virginia State Police from Division 2 Area 13 also patrol in Clarke County. Area 13 (Clarke, Frederick, and Warren counties) headquarters is located at 3680 Valley Pike in Winchester. Call (540) 662-3313.
Because Clarke County is an agricultural community, the Sheriff’s Office maintains emergency contact information for livestock (cattle, horses, sheep, etc.) to help notify owners in the event livestock is found running loose or injured. The Sheriff's Office also has a drug collection unit in the lobby of its office at 100 N. Church St. in Berryville. Access to the collection unit is available 24 hours a day. The drug collection unit helps residents safely dispose of expired or unwanted medications, including controlled substances, that may otherwise be diverted, abused, or contaminate rivers, streams, and the public water supply.
